One new coach will debut at Monett High School this fall. Shyrah Boyle will head the volleyball program at MHS as well as be assistant girls basketball coach and teach girls physical education.
Boyle is a 2005 graduate of Fair Grove High School and 2009 graduate of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.
"I love the Monett community and look forward to promoting my love for volleyball to the ones I teach," said Boyle.
In accepting her first coaching assignment, Boyle comes to Monett with an impressive resume. In high school she was All-Conference, All-District and All-State in volleyball, and also played basketball and softball and ran track. Her volleyball accomplishments carried over into college.
At SBU, Boyle made All-Conference, Academic All-Conference and several all-tournament teams. She broke the university's single-season dig record and won the Female Rex Brown Athlete of the Year Award.
She said she found Monett's volleyball camp in early June "rewarding" in that there were 115 kids from elementary school age through high school taking part.
In discussing her coaching philosophy, Boyle said, "It is important to be dedicated, work hard and have enthusiasm.
"I hope to instill in the young ladies that the skills learned in volleyball can be life skills as well," Boyle added. "I want them to learn the passion and the correct fundamentals of the game."
Looking to the upcoming season, Boyle said, "We have a strong group of girls. I believe they are ready for the challenge. They want to succeed."
Volleyball tryouts will be held Monday, Aug. 10 and Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the high school gymnasium. Tryouts will be from 8 to 10 a.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. both days.
