Wilbur Howerton

Mr. Wilbur  "Chic" Hubbard Howerton, 99, of Monett, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the Monett Health Care Center. He was born January 31, 1910, in Neosho, Missouri, the son of the late William and Letha Hubbard Howerton. He was united in marriage to Lera Stribbling on September 17, 1932, in Joplin, Missouri, and she survives.

Wilbur moved to Monett in 1954 where he was employed at JayZee Inc. as a mechanic. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Monett. He was well known for his paintings of the Ozarks.

Along with his wife, other survivors include: two sons, Bob Howerton and Gary Howerton, both of Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Wilbur was preceded in death by one sister, Hester Carr.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri, with Charlene Dart officiating. Burial will be in the Monett IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 1, 2009, from 9 till 10 a.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett, Missouri.
