Edward Ernst Emil Knaust, 83, of Freistatt, Mo., passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Mo.
Mr. Knaust was born June 10, 1926, in Hoberg, Mo., the son of Herman and Erna Ceddonia Pietsch Knaust.
He was an auctioneer for 47 years. He graduated from Reisch Auction School in August, 1962. He enjoyed farming, visiting with family and friends, Cardinal baseball games, attending high school sporting events and fishing. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, Mo., where he was an elder, on the finance board and usher's staff. He was a World War II veteran, where he spent 17 months stateside with 14 of those as an MP for 703rd Battalion. Since October, 1946, he was a member of the Hubert H. Kleiboeker American Legion Post 419, serving as a commander, vice commander, finance officer, sergeant at arms and chaplain.
He married Emma Resler on September 14, 1958, in Freistatt, Mo., and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include: one son, Kenneth Edward Knaust, of Monett; one daughter, Imogene Marie Knaust, of Pierce City, Mo.; two brothers, Elfred Knaust and wife, Janet, of Joplin, Mo., and William Knaust and wife, Ruth, of Joplin, Mo.; one sister, Rose Marie Knaust, of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ernadene Ruth Knaust at birth; one brother, Raymond Knaust and his wife, Emma; and one sister, Flora Spree and her husband, Theodore.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freistatt, with Pastor Ryan Buchmueller and Wilbur Claude officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
