Motorists heading east from Monett on Highway 60 can expect delays as crews for Journagan Construction have begun shaping the first in a series of passing zones between Monett and Republic.

On the first section of work, east of the Monett city limits, traffic has been moved to the north side of the road, with cones set on the center and westbound traffic driving on the north shoulder. Crews are moving dirt on the south side and spreading a rock base over the excavated area for a new lane on the south, leaving the center for passing.

Twelve passing zones will be built with two lanes headed in the same direction. Three sections of roadway, including the stretches through Marionville and Billings will have two-way left turn lanes added.

Work is scheduled to be finished by Nov. 20.
