Monett Youth Baseball and Softball League hosted three district tournaments at North Park last weekend with Monett teams finishing second in all three tourneys, according to Kirk Verhoff, league president and tournament organizer.
The three divisions represented were 8-and-under Rookie baseball, 9-and-under Minor League baseball and 13-and-under Babe Ruth baseball.
In the Rookie tournament, Aurora beat Marionville and Monett, Mt. Vernon defeated Sarcoxie and Cassville, and Monett lost to Aurora but advanced through the loser bracket to beat Sarcoxie, Marionville and Mt. Vernon. Losing out early were Cassville, Sarcoxie and Marionville.
Saturday's championship round saw Monett down Mt. Vernon 10-5 and then give heavily favored Aurora all they wanted before falling 17-16. Monett trailed 17-11 going into the last inning and then scored five runs but came up short.
Playing on the Monett Rookie team were Corey Spain, Karter Brink, Lane Shearburn, Carter Tinklepaugh, Mason Ballay, Alex Rivera, Marcus Isbell, Dale Slater, Rueben Dierker, Gunner Bradley, William Dangerfield and Joseph Semerad.
The team was managed by Scott Spain. Assisting as coaches were Robert Brink and Brent Dangerfield.
Monett, Aurora and Mt. Vernon were the only teams competing in the 9-and-under tourney and was set up with each team playing twice.
Aurora was the dominant team, going undefeated, and will represent the district in the state playoffs in Cassville tomorrow.
The Monett team did come away with two wins by beating the Mt. Vernon team twice.
Players on the Monett team were Jed Anderson, Lane Witt, Coy Butterworth, Derick Morrison, Mason Brewer, Jake Bouchard, Cameron Johnson, Nick Neumeirer, Garrett Tharp, Clayton Kaiser, Cody Neil and Ethan Berry.

In the 13-and-under tournament, the Aurora I team prevailed.
Monett lost its first round game to Sarcoxie. Monett had the game pretty much under control but then gave up some crucial runs in the last inning giving the win to Sarcoxie.
Monett then had its work cut out for them by having to face Aurora II, Reed Springs, Sarcoxie for the second time and then Aurora I. The Monettans played the Aurora I team close but were defeated and had to settle for second place.
Players on the 13-and-under Monett team were Cooper Caldwell, Barrett Southern, Brendon George, Mitchell Scheid, Mitchell Carlin, Trenton Walker, Kyndall Phillips, Jacob Sperandio, Quincy Jackson, Chad Swanson, Wesley Abramovitz and Mikey Cooper.
Jeff Phillips managed the Monett team. He was assisted by Rich Harper and Mike Scheid.
