Ethel Pauline "Polly" Kee, 75, of Monett, Mo., passed away at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Mo.
Polly was born at the family home in Oregon, Missouri, on Sunday, December 3, 1933, the only child of Judge Curtis Paul Raiser and Ethel Charlene (Markt) Raiser. She married Norman Dean Kee on the 18th day of April, 1954, at the First Presbyterian Church, Oregon, Missouri, by Rev. Stuart Baxter. They made their home on the family farm at Forbes where two sons were born, attended school and graduated at Oregon. After their sons' graduation from high school, the family moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. After 10 years, they purchased a cattle farm at Monett. Polly was employed at the Pettijohn & Eiser Law Firm in Oregon, 1953-1973. When they made their home in Oklahoma she was employed at Phillips Petroleum Company in the office of the vice president of Phillips Research and Development, 1978-1988. After establishing residence in rural Monett, Missouri, she managed a flea market and was employed by the City of Monett in the Recreation Department until retirement again in 2003.
She was baptized as a baby and as a teen accepted the Lord and was confirmed and became a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Oregon. She was active in Presbyterian Church activities at Oregon, Bartlesville and Monett. Polly was an Elder and deaconess, interested in Christian education of the children and also worship with music. She served her church as superintendent of Children's Church and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She and Dean enjoyed working with teens and were adult leaders of church youth groups. Polly loved the Lord and enjoyed teaching the children about Jesus and spreading His word to all and doing His work.
Polly attended and graduated from Oregon Public Schools where she was active in many school and social activities. She excelled in music and business classes. In addition to church and school organizations she was active in the Order of Rainbow for Girls and Grand Cross of Color. After 1951 graduation from high school she attended and graduated from Platt Business College in St. Joseph, Missouri, with a degree in business administration. She worked as secretary in the business office of Moila Shrine Temple in St. Joseph before moving back to Oregon for employment in the law firm of Pettijohn & Eiser for 20 years.
Polly loved her family and the people of her home community, taking pride in activities to develop opportunities for all. It was a joy for her to help establish a swimming pool (now known as South Holt Pool) and also the community fair (known as Autumn Festival of Holt County). She was secretary for many years. She was active in many organizations through the years with her sons and civic organizations including Extension Council, Extension Council Women Treasurer, 4-H clubs and extension clubs, Happy Homes and Forbes Community Booster, VFW auxiliary, Missouri Federated Women's Club (Holiday), Business and Professional Women's Club and Jane Phillips Sorority. She was elected to serve years as committee woman on the county committees and elected to Lawrence County Extension Council.
Polly's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the utmost, absolute joy of her life. She also loved to travel with her family and see the United States. She loved the mountains and the ocean beaches as well as the Midwest of which she was native. In recent years she became interested in genealogy research and was a member of several genealogical organizations in Missouri, Pennsylvania and Ohio. She was always excited to learn more about her family ancestors and to document her findings for her family. Polly was a creative person who enjoyed writing, arts and crafts which included painting, candle making, jewelry making, greeting card design, etc.
In addition to her husband, Polly is survived by two sons, Terry Dean Kee and his wife, Linda, of Purdy, Missouri, and son, Barry Curtis Kee and wife, Patti, of Aurora, Missouri. She is also survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Jaramy Dean Kee, Laci Kee Milford, Justin Michael Kee, McKayla Miller and Breydon Miller.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett. On Saturday, July 11, 2009, a visitation will be held 2 to 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Oregon, Missouri. Following the visitation, services will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev. Walt Hamer officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Oregon, Mo.
