Carthage overpowers Monett Legion team

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

A long week of games finally caught up with Monett Post 91's players, as they lost a road game to Carthage 12-1 in Tuesday night American Legion action.

After hosting Aurora in a doubleheader on Thursday, Monett played two games Saturday in the Marcus O' Hara Tournament at Monett, losing to Cassville in the championship game, 4-3. They then split a doubleheader with East Newton on Monday night. The Rockets won the first game 11-10 in extra innings, but Post 91 took the late game, 4-3.

The blowout loss to Carthage was a result of a combination of factors, including fatigue and a quality opponent.

"We didn't have a lot go right for us," said Coach Blaine Trout. "Plus, Carthage has a very good ball club with lots of older players. Several of those guys will be playing in college.

"Tomorrow's another day," the coach concluded.

Monett Post 91 will play again tonight at Seneca. Game time is 6 p.m.
