Making a long trip from St. Louis to the annual Southwest Missouri All-Stars soccer game in Springfield last night, Monett High School graduate Bianca Holloway made the journey worth it.
Holloway, who played on the MHS Cubs boys soccer team, scored two goals to lead the Red girls team to a 6-1 triumph over the Yellow team at Cooper Soccer Complex.
"I didn't expect to come into this game being able to do anything like that," Holloway was quoted as saying.
The daughter of Randy and Christie Holloway of Monett, the soccer player was one of only 38 players in southwest Missouri chosen to take part in the game.
The Red team was already ahead, 1-0, when Holloway, from her forward position, scored unassisted at the 19th minute of the first half, and that goal proved to be the game-winner.
With the score 2-1 in favor of the Red team in the second half, Holloway scored again at he 50th minute to make the score 3-1 and the Red team pulled away from there. Erica Combs provided the assist on the Holloway score.
In the boys game, the Yellow team edged the Red team by a 7-6 score. On the Red team roster was another Monett graduate, Humberto Morales, a midfielder.
