The fifth annual Verona Sacred Heart Summer Fest will be held on the grounds of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, June 13 from 5 to 10 p.m.
Live music is planned for the event. The gospel band Rusurrection will play from 8 to 9 p.m. Rick Boyer from Aurora will provide recorded music through the evening. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
Food will be served beginning at 5 p.m. Planned on the menu arebratwurst and sauerkraut, hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, enchiladas, tamales, tostadas, rice and beans, and homemade desserts.
Bingo will be offered inside the church's fellowship hall, beginning at 5 p.m. A variety of children's games will be available, including rides on the Verona Powder-Keg Barrel Train.
Over $2,000 in prizes will be given away in drawings held throughout the evening. Available will be a Wii system, a smoker, queen sized quilt, gift baskets, children's items and entertainment packages for shows in Branson, Eureka Springs, Ark., Kansas City and St. Louis.
Proceeds from past festivals have gone toward the construction debt for the Parish Hall, which was paid off last December. According to a church spokesperson, proceeds from this year's event will go toward upkeep on the century-old church building.
Mass will be held prior to festivities at 4 p.m. In case of rain, activities will be held on June 14.
Sacred Heart is located on the north side of Verona at Second Street and Adams.
