Anderson finalist for MSBA Award

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

Monett R-1 School Board member Rod Anderson is a finalist for the first Paul Morris Community Service Award, offered by FutureBuilders, the education foundation of the Missouri School Boards' Association. The R-1 Board of Education recognized Anderson for the honor at its May meeting.

Anderson, a former president of the Monett School Board, is presently in his fourth term. He also serves on the Board of Governors for Missouri Southern State University, the Monett Community Foundation Board and has been a leading figure in the Monett Historical Society.

The Morris Award, which is expected to be offered annually, is designed to recognize individuals who provide community leadership through school board service and other activities. The award is given in honor of the late Paul Morris, of Mt. Vernon, a former MSBA president.

Seventeen finalists are in the running for the Morris Award, which includes a $1,000 prize for the winner and a $1,000 award to be used by the winner's school district for scholarships. The winner will be announced on June 12 in Columbia.
