Florence Burton

Mrs. Florence Estella Burton, 98, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett. Florence was born April 27, 1911 in Marceline, Missouri, to the late Thomas Tilford and Bessie (Williams) Sturguess. Florence moved to McCloud, California, where she met and married Eston (Dutch) Burton of Purdy on March 20, 1929. Both moved to this small northern California town to work in the lumber industry. In 1945 Eston and Florence moved back to the Purdy community where they established their permanent home. Eston preceded Florence in death in 1977.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church in Purdy.

Florence is survived by four children: Mildred Aaron and husband, Jack, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ruby Bradford and husband, Harold, of Emporia, Kansas, Anna Ruth Poore and husband, Dee, of Florissant, Missouri, and Gail Burton and wife, Bonnie, of Vienna, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; two sisters: Dora Smith and husband, Ray, and Rebecca Sparks and husband, Gerald; and one brother: Eugene Sturguess.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 5, 2009, 2 p.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Francisco officiating. Burial will be in the Purdy Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 5, 2009, at 1 p.m. till service time at the funeral home.
