Beginning June 1, The Monett Times will cease publication of its Monday edition. The newspaper will continue publishing daily on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
"We are enacting the changes we feel necessary to survive the recent economic downturn and provide Monett with a quality newspaper," said Publisher Bob Moore in announcing the company's decision.
According to Moore, the newspaper's parent company, Rust Communications, has researched ways to cut expenses without affecting the quality of the newspaper. It was determined that dropping one day of publication was the answer rather than reducing employee hours or reducing news coverage of local events.
The change will allow the newspaper to save money on newsprint and distribution expense by eliminating one of The Monett Times' least profitable days of publication.
"With the loss of automotive and real estate advertising, we were not getting enough advertising to justify a five days a week publication," said Moore.
