The Monett Rural Fire Association has had a light month for service calls, reported Assistant Chief Phil Ogle.
From April 20 to May 20, firefighters responded to a grass fire on May 19 on Z Highway, southeast of Monett. Ogle said the fire started as a controlled fire that got out of control, spreading to nearby hay bales.
Firefighters also acted as First Responders in going to three vehicular accidents during the month. The accidents were located north of Monett on Farm Road 1090, south of the Monett Walmart and south of Pleasant Ridge.
The Monett Rural department hosted a firefighter appreciation cookout at South Park on May 9 to express appreciation to other departments that have supported Monett Rural's efforts. Attending were representatives from the Purdy Fire District, Pierce City city and rural departments, the Monett city fire department, Monett Police Department and the Barry-Lawrence Ambulance District.
