No tennis players from the Monett Cubs placed, but two singles entries and one doubles entry from the Cubs logged second round wins Friday in the Class 1A District 5 tournament at Rogersville.
Johannes Eisenhardt, of Monett, a seventh seed in singles competition, defeated Chris Schultz, of Reeds Spring, 6-1 and 6-3 in the second round after having a first round bye. Eisenhardt then lost to Coleman Bandy, of Thomas Jefferson, 2-6 and 2-6 in the quarterfinals.
Also in singles action, Al Dohmen, of the Cubs, beat Chris Li, of New Convenant, 6-0 and 6-1. Dohmen then lost to Auggie Newberry, of Bolivar, 2-6 and 5-7, in the quarterfinals.
In doubles play, Sean Medlin and Colt Moller, of Monett, a third seed, won over a Springfield Catholic doubles team 7-5 and 6-2. Medlin and Moller then lost in the quarterfinals to a Reeds Spring team 6-1, 4-6 and 5-7.
Monett's other doubles team, Michael Kean and Drew Williams, lost in the first round to a Republic team by scores of 2-6 and 3-6.
Webb City won the district team title, and Thomas Jefferson was second. Ryan Miller, of Webb City, won the singles championship, and Spenser Newman and David Evans, of Thomas Jefferson, won the doubles title.
