Cox Monett Hospital hosted its first-ever Nurse's Day awards banquet on May 6 to honor its nursing staff and carry out the Nurses Week theme of "We're All in this Together."
|The highlight of the banquet was the presentation of the Nurse of the Year Award and eight Partners Behavior Standard Awards.||Each member of the Cox Monett Hospital nursing staff was given a ballot to fill out for the person they believed best represented each one of the hospital's values, which include positive attitude, accountable, responsive, teamwork, no excuses, exemplary, responsibility and service.|
The nurses with the most votes for each value received a certificate and a basket of prizes. The nurse who received the most overall votes in all categories was named Nurse of the Year.
Juanita Clayton, RN, serving in the medical/surgical department and special care unit, won Nurse of the Year honors for her hard work and dedication. She received a framed certificate of award and a 32-inch flat screen TV, which was purchased with the assistance of the Cox Monett physicians.
Individual value award winners were: positive attitude, Melissa Gertiser, RN, house supervisor; accountable, Stephanie Mahan, RN, medical-surgical department; responsive, Rhonda Toler, RN, visiting patient center; teamwork, Monica Murphy, RN, house supervisor; no excuses, JoAnne Koehler, RN, house supervisor; exemplary, Juanita Clayton, RN, medical-surgical department and special care unit; responsibility, Heidi Clark, RN, house supervisor; and service, Jodi Curry, PCA, medical-surgical department.
All nursing personnel who attended the banquet received a door prize that was donated by a local business. Nurses also were given special T-shirts to commemorate Nurse's Day.
Monett area businesses that made donations for the awards banquet include: Acambaro, AutoZone; Big Baldy's BBQ; Boucher's; Brownsberger's; Bruner's Pharmacy; Burger King; Connoisseurs; Cox Monett-Wellness; Curves; Gambino's Pizza; Grant's Restaurant; KFC; Modern Variety; Movie Gallery; Old Town Pharmacy; Perfect Images; Pizza Hut; Plaza 8 Cinema; Walmart; and Westco Home Furnishings.
"We would like to thank all of the local businesses that donated door prizes," said Patti Nash, RN, nursing manager of the Medical Surgical Department and Special Care Unit. "Their generous donations and support is greatly appreciated."
Beverly Morris, RN, who serves as nurse manager of the Emergency Department, said plans are already being made for the second annual Nurse's Day Awards Banquet to be held next year.
Cox Monett Hospital's nurses recognition events were organized by the hospital's nurse managers who include: Morris; Nash; Sandy Jastal, RN, chief nursing officer; Margaret Ramsey, RN, nurse manager of the Special Delivery Unit; Lisa McDunner, RN, nurse manager of Surgery; and Kay Batson, RN, nurse manager of the Visiting Patient Center.
