The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department located an active methamphetamine lab and various drug paraphernalia yesterday after serving a search warrant at a rural residence in Mt. Vernon.
According to Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay, the search warrant was issued after information was received that there was an active meth lab on the property.
After an ongoing investigation and with the cooperation of area law enforcement agencies, officers located approximately 20 "loaded" syringes of suspected methamphetamine.
Several pieces of drug paraphernalia and marijuana were also located within the residence. The remnants of a meth lab were located a short distance from the residence.
Three males and three females were taken into custody and transported to the Lawrence County Jail where they are being held for investigation of possession and manufacturing of a controlled substance.
An infant, believed to be under the age of 1, was also at the residence. The child was placed under the protection of the Division of Family Services who will be conducting a separate investigation.
Formal charges are pending against the six adults taken into custody.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted the sheriff's department in serving the warrant.
