Youth Ball Program Slates Opening Day Ceremonies

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

The opening day celebration for the Monett Youth Baseball and Softball League will be held Saturday at the North Park Complex.

The celebration gets underway at 9 a.m. All players will be introduced. The teams will then play a 30-minute scrimmage game each

Following the scrimmage, each player will be treated to a complimentary hot dog, bag of chips and drink.

The regular season begins Monday.

The League will also host the Missouri Babe Ruth State tournament in June, which will bring teams from all over the state to Monett.

"The city really welcomes all visitors and shows its support during these times. The citizens have a great deal in which to be proud," said Ken Gaspar, league treasurer.

"Our League has been in existence for a number of years. It is run by a very dedicated group of volunteers," Gaspar said. "We welcome anyone interested in joining our great organization to contact us at the park or by e-mail (mybsl@suddenlink.net).

"These kids are great and it is such a joy to see them having so much fun, but the greatest joy is being a part of it to ensure they always will," Gaspar added.
