Putting seven runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning, the Cassville Wildcats were able to end the game via the 10-run rule with a 13-1 Big 8 Conference baseball victory over the Monett Cubs at Monett North Park yesterday.
Monett dropped to 1-2 in the league and 4-4 overall.
While the visitors only out-hit Monett 7-2, errors, which have plagued the Cubs all season, were very costly again. Monett committed eight miscues in the field compared to just two for the Wildcats.
Cassville took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Monett got its only run in the bottom half. With one out, Colten Phillips walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Kirk Moore.
Kyle Coatney was the losing pitcher for Monett. He struck out 10 in the game.
Aaron Jamieson was an offensive spark for Cassville with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scores. Trevor Tanner also drove in two runs for the Wildcats.
Travis Northern was the winning hurler.
Monett lost the B-game to Cassville 6-5.
The Cubs will next be in action Thursday at home versus Carl Junction.
