Aurora teen held in shooting

A male juvenile has been taken into custody folowing the shooting of 18-year-old David Cummings, of rural Aurora, on April 15.

According to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Cummings was shot at the residence of a friend on Farm Road 2210. The sheriff's department was contacted when Cummings arrived at St. John's Hospital-Aurora with a gun shot wound. He was later airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

Cummings is recovering in the hospital and is listed as critical but stable. The victim was shot once in the abdomin. The shot was from a small caliber gun.

The incident is under investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. Currently, officers are working to determine whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.

As of this morning, no formal charges had been filed against the teenager who was taken into custody yesterday, April 16.
