MHS speech students advance to national competition

Ten Monett Speech and Debate students qualified to compete at the national tournament for the National Forensic League in the qualifying tournament on March 20 and 21.

According to speech teacher Marilyn Mann, the following students have advanced to the National Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., in June: Kirstin Racicot and Bridgette Renfro, first place in duo acting; Rolando Rodriguez and Desirae Fowler, third place in duo acting; Kacy Barta, third place in humorous interpretation; Megan Aleshire, third place in dramatic interpretation; Kirk Gandy, first place in foreign extemporaneous speaking; Brit Isbell and Nic Kennedy, first place in public forum debate; and Bill Townsend, first place in oratory.

Also advancing to the final round were Kirstin Racicot in humorous interpretation, Rolando Rodriguez in dramatic interpretation, and Kirk Gandy who took third in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Hayley LaGarce made it to the semi-final round in domestic extemporaneous speaking. Also advancing that far were Rachel Economou in humorous interpretatioon, Jacques duPlessis in dramatic interpretation, Kacy Barta and Chelsea Ash in duo acting, Abbie VanNice and Makayla Bennett in duo acting, and Sean Qureshi in foreign extemporaneous speaking.
