Eleven returning lettermen points to good things for the Monett Cubs boys track team this season as the squad prepare for the season-opening competition in the Neosho warm-up on March 24.
"We are looking forward to a successful year," commented Head Coach Jerry Hudson. "The returning lettermen are providing good team leadership and our numbers are up this year with 48 young men reporting and working hard."
Last year senior D.J. Dunmire was third in the state in the pole vault, and he is school record holder in that event at 14 feet. Senior Steven Noriega was 10th in the state in the 400-meter last season.
The Cubs won the Monett Relays and Lamar Relays last season and were third in the Webb City Relays.
Returning lettermen include: senior Clint Cloud and juniors Beau Bounous and Jason Obermann, in the shot put and discus; seniors D. J. Dunmire and Logan Lalonde and sophomore Chris Eimer, in jumping events; senior Scotty Wilson, and junior Ben Fellwock, in sprinting events; senior Steven Noriega and juniors Garrett Dutton and Harald Gabriel, in distance events.
The other athletes on the track team include: senior Humberto Morales; juniors Ryan Cody, Matt Hinkle, Christian Isbell, Brandon Marion, Micah Miller, Christian Privett, Uriel Rueda, Josh Shaner, Miles Schmidt, Seth Spencer and Mauricio Trujillo; sophomores Kyle Aldrich, Dion Alexander, Jacob Childress, Kyle Doss, Wayne Dunmire, Tristen Homfeldt, Ryno Johnson, Levi Litchfield, Clayton Patton, Juan Renteria, Drew Sligar and Bill Townsend; and freshmen William Baez, Jared Childress, Logan Faber, Zack Jensen, Connor Kimsey, Grant Lay, Clayton Locher, Brandon Privett, Bobby Mobley, Gunnar Pryor, Chris Renteria and Robert Waibel.
The remaining schedule is as follows: March 26 at McDonald County; March 31 at Reeds Spring; April 2 at Carthage; April 6 at Webb City; April 8 at Glendale; April 16 at East Newton; April 20 at Carl Junction; April 23 at Lamar; April 30 at Monett; May 5, Big 8 Conference meet; May 16, district meet; May 23 sectional meet; and May 29-30, state meet.
