Emergency planners prepare for training

The Barry-Lawrence County Local Emergency Planning District (LEPD) discussed upcoming training events at its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 15.

Transportation Commun-ity Awareness and Emergency Response railroad hazardous materials training will be conducted in Springfield on April 14 and in Carthage on May 14. Both training events are free, and lunch will be provided.

A hazardous materials operation course is also being conducted at the Monett Rural Fire Department.

Other hazardous materials training sessions can be scheduled by calling the LEPD office at 417-235-0200. The district offers hazardous materials awareness and hazardous materials operations classes.

In other business, the Barry-Lawrence County LEPD:

* Heard a presentation by Michael White, Missouri Emergency Response Commission (MERC) regional representative. White will assist the district in planning future training events.

* Received the new State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) brochure.

* Heard that rooms have been reserved at the Radisson in Branson for the individuals who are planning to attend the 21st Annual Missouri Emergency Management Conference in March.
