Warren Edgar Betts, 85, of Cassville, died at 11:45 p.m. March 5, 2009.
Mr. Betts was born July 15, 1923, in Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Charles Franklin and Ena Pearl Crandall Betts. He was a 1940 graduate of Guthrie Center High School in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer, a sheet metal factory worker and highway construction worker. He retired after 30 years of service with the Federal Soil Conservation Service in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion in Iowa, American Legion Post 118 in Cassville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Iowa. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Golden Harvest Club in Cassville.
He married Elaine Marie Bowman on May 30, 1951, in Greene County, Iowa, and she survives.
Additional survivors include: six daughters, Linda Buckingham, of Muncie, Ind., Lila Kolker and Marie Betts, both of Rolla, Rita Tyson, of Superior, Wis., Darla Otto, of Tulsa, Okla., and Loa Osborne, of Waxhau, N.C.; one son, Donnell Betts, of New Hartford, Iowa; one brother, John Betts, of Indianola, Iowa; one sister, Freda Luckinbill, of Branson; 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leila and Verona; and seven brothers, Claire, Harold, Claude, Floyd, Donald, Paul and Leon Betts.
Memorial services with military honors will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at the United Methodist Church in Cassville with Rev. Lee Porch officiating under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home of Cassville.
Memorials may be made to the church food pantry.
