Pierce City, Southwest girls beaten in basketball action

Girls basketball teams from Pierce City and Southwest sustained defeats last night in the Class 3A District 12 tourney at Granby.

Pierce City's Eagles were blanked 0-19 in the first quarter and could not recover in losing to Mt. Vernon, 56-72.

The Eagles did out-point Mt. Vernon 23-15 in the final stanza but it wasn't nearly enough.

Kaitlin Osborn was Pierce City's leading scorer with 19 points and Stevie Freeman added 18 points.

Monica Senninger had 13 points for Mt. Vernon. Danielle Goodman, Kenzie Williams, and Amelia Bramer all had 10 points.

Southwest also lost in that tourney to Seneca, 45-52. Seneca led 39-17 at the half.

Kirstie Ickes had 16 points for Southwest and Kelsey Henry added 12 points.

Taylor McDaniel and Jacci Yust each tallied 12 points for Seneca.
