Girls basketball teams from Purdy, Miller, Exeter and Verona lived to play another day as a result of posting semifinal district basketball victories last night.
Class 2A District 10
In the Class 2A District 10 tourney at Purdy, the host Ladies Eagles took charge over Wheaton in the second quarter and went on to win the semifinal contest, 48-37.
The Lady Bulldogs came out ready to play and managed an 8-7 first quarter lead. However, Purdy wasn't going to be denied this night, outscoring Wheaton 20-14 in the second stanza to establish a lead they would not relinquish.
The Lady Eagles led 27-22 at intermission and 39-35 after three quarters, then pulled away late by outpointing Wheaton 9-2 in the last period.
Addy Roller sparked Purdy to the victory with 21 points. Also in double figures was Audrey Patton with 11 points.
Leah Jones, Kaitlin England, and Megan Brattin all tallied 8 points for Wheaton.
Once again the Miller Cardinals rode the hot hand of Hannah Wilkerson to the victory circle.
Wilkerson fired in 37 points, including three treys, to leading the Lady Cardinals past College Heights in the other semifinal battle.
Miller forged a 14-8 first quarter advantage and stretched the lead to 52-38 after three quarters.
Helping Wilkerson in the scoring column for Miller were Samantha Hendrickson with 14 points and Nicole Adams with 10 points.
Rachel Brehm tossed in 25 points for College Heights and Kristen Ward chipped in with 15 points.
Purdy and Miller will now meet for the tourney title at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Class 1A District 6
In the Class 1A District 6 event at Aurora, Exeter advanced by upending Chadwick 57-38.
The Lady Tigers took a 13-8 first quarter lead and increased the advantage to 23-13 at intermission.
All-Stater Whitney Edie was again a big factor for Exeter, tossing in 29 points. Shelby Bowman stepped up to give Edie a lot of support with 18 points.
Krystyn Dollarhide was Chadwick's top point producer with 14.
Verona raced to a 17-6 first quarter lead over Walnut Grove in the other semifinal contest but had to withstand a fourth quarter surge to win, 46-40. Verona led 36-23 after three quarters but were outscored 17-10 in the final stanza.
Tristan Carasquillo led the Lady Wildcats scoring attack with 15 points, and Jessica Smith added 13 points.
Haley Harmon had 11 points for Walnut Grove.
Verona and Exeter will now face off for the tourney championship at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
