Powered by all-stater Whitney Edie, the Exeter Lady Tigers roared into the Class 1A quarterfinals with a 52-35 basketball triumph over Humansville last night at Bolivar.
Exeter, 27-1, will now face Montrose in the quarterfinals in Sedalia on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
Both teams got off to a slow start last night, with the Lady Tigers holding to a 9-5 lead after the opening stanza.
Exeter continued to slowly pull away, and had a 24-16 lead at intermission. Then came the big third quarter.
Forcing seven turnovers in stepping up the defensive pressure, the Barry County quintet held Humansville to just 3 points while collecting 15 and opening up a big 39-19 lead entering the final stanza.
Edie fueled the Lady Tiger scoring attack with 25 points.
Other players scoring for Exeter were Kasie Scott with 8 points, Shelby Bowman with 7 points, Ashton Scott and Destani Stensrud with 5 points each and Katie Chadd with 2 points.
