Lawrence County's Senior Citizen Tax Board awards grants

The Lawrence County Senior Citizens Fund Tax Board allotted grant funds to area senior centers, made a resolution to purchase a certificate of deposit and reviewed the treasurer's report during its meeting held on January 22 at the Mt. Vernon Senior Center.

The grant requests and approvals are as follows:

The Miller Senior Center requested a grant in the amount of $9,000. The grant amount approved was $8,700 and will be paid annually.

Heritage Harmony House Senior Center, located in Aurora, requested a grant in the amount of $9,200. The grant amount approved was $8,700 and will be paid annually.

The Monett Senior Citizens Center requested a grant in the amount of $7,000. The amount of the grant approved was $2,900 to be paid annually and upon receipt of the financial statement for the center.

The John Taylor Senior Center, located in Aurora, requested a grant in the amount of $8,700. The grant was approved and will be paid bi-annually per the center's request.

The Pierce City Senior Center requested a grant in the amount of $9,500. The grant amount approved was $8,700 and will be paid annually.

Lawrence County Council on Aging (LCCOA), located in Aurora, requested a grant in the amount of $137,000 for its house work, respite, good neighbor, transportation, home-delivered meals programs and the Missouri Elderly and Handicapped Transportation Assistance Program (MEHTAP). The grant was approved with a $2,000 limit for MEHTAP expenses.

The OATS transportation service requested a grant in the amount of $19,350. The service wants another bus three days a week in Marionville and two days a week in Pierce City. In addition, OATS requested an extension of its current contract that goes through May. The grant was approved and the contract was extended through December.

In other business, board members agreed to purchase a certificate of deposit with First Independent Bank, located in Aurora, and reviewed the treasurer's report with an ending balance of $92,831.76 as of Dec 31, 2008.
