Frank Combs of near Monett arrived home Sunday from Camp Funston, Kansas, where he was discharged from the service.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Frear of Monett went to Webb City today to visit relatives, and then will go to Joplin where they will play for a dance.

Rumor has it that teachers in Stone County "buy their jobs" by agreeing to divide their salaries with members of the school board. County Superintendent Raymond Patterson said he wants the rumors investigated.
An overflow crowd attended the demonstration given at Monett High School by the girls physical education department and the boys modern dancing class.

Gordon Long, a Monett High School graduate and star football player, was recognized with a party last night. Long of the University of Arkansas football team won a national award for the finest act of sportsmanship of any major college football player in 1948.
A hole was burned in the floor of the auctioneer's cage at the Monett Sales Barn on East Broadway last night.

Thirteenth annual charter night for the Monett Lions Club was commemorated last night at the Monett City Park Casino with more than 100 Lions and their guests in attendance.
Monett Garden Center officers for the coming year are Mrs. B. H. Willoughby, secretary; Mrs. J. D. Higgins, chairman; Mrs. Ed Howard, vice chairman; Mrs. James Vinson, reporter; Mrs. Emmitt Vinson, historian; and Mrs. Albert Avondet, treasurer.

All teachers in the Monett R-1 school system will receive a $400 salary increase for the 1969-70 school year.
O. E. Parscale was re-elected president of the Monett Chamber of Commerce board of directors last night and Bill Martin was named vice president.

Plans for the dedication of the new $370,000 north-south runway at the Monett Municipal Airport are underway with the event scheduled for June 17.
Named to the All-State Academic Wrestling Team from Monett were Chet Nine, Joe Lucero, Kenny Estes, and David Roetto.

Monett Mayor Jerry Fulp announced that a decision has been reached to hire Barry Frank of Joplin as the new manager of the Monett Municipal Golf Course.
Buying bricks to help finance the downtown sidewalk improvement project has been suggested by the Monett Downtown Betterment Group.
