Bertha Doennig passed away Friday, May 29, at her home in Monett, just a few months after her 95th birthday. Born in Freistatt, she was the sixth and last surviving child of Benjamin and Augusta (Kaiser) Joeckel. Bertha attended Trinity Lutheran School in Freistatt and was a drummer in the drum and bugle corp. The Lions Clubs of Missouri District 26-M6 will host the 36th annual Lions All-Star Twin Classic Basketball Games. The top senior basketball athletes from schools in Barry, Lawrence, Barton, Jasper, Newton, McDonald, Cedar and Dade counties have been chosen to play. Mighty Mites football, cheerleading signups underway

Area residents will have six opportunities to sign their children up for the 2015-2016 Mighty Mite football and cheerleading teams. The cost for football players is $60, plus $50 for each additional child. There is a $35 cost for cheerleaders. The league will hold signups every Thursday in June at Burl Fowler Stadium from 4-6 p.m., and at the youth summer camp on July 13-14 from 6-8 p.m. Scholarships are available.
