Despite a hot and humid week, the Monett Mighty Mite program experienced record turnout of more than double its usual participants. Usually the camp features 30 participants, in the first two days of this year's event, almost 80 youth attended. Delmar "Cotton" Hayes, 87, of Monett, MO, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, while at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO. Cotton was born on April 14, 1927, in Butterfield, MO, son of the late Ola and Rosie (Perkins) Hayes. Granby woman involved in Hwy. 86 wreck

A Granby woman suffered minor injuries Tuesday after being involved in a single-vehicle wreck on Hwy. 86, three miles east of Wheaton. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol Report, Ginger Perkins, 55, of Granby, was attempting to avoid another vehicle allegedly crowding the center line when her vehicle, a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country Minivan, ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a road sign and overturned. Freistatt trustees ban hunting on city property

Hunting of any kind is now banned on city property in Freistatt. Trustees found problems with establishing a partial ban and chose to eliminate hunting altogether.
