On Oct. 31, Halloween night, it was the Aurora Houn' Dawgs who were treated to a 29-21 win over Monett to end the Cubs' football season. Monett (5-5) entered the contest on the heels of a four-game skid and was unable to exercise the losing demons. The Pierce City Eagles football team lost in the first round of district play Thursday, Oct 31 to the McAuley Warriors 28-21. The Eagles' offense stumbled in the first half, only gaining 42 yards in 31 plays. McAuley's offense took advantage of some over-aggressiveness by the Eagles defense on several well-designed bubble screenplay. According to a report from the Monett Police Department a Monett resident suffered injuries in a pickup versus train collision at 4:50 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1. Justin Hicks, 22, was driving south on Chapell Drive. in a 1997 Dodge pickup when he approached the train crossing. Sales tax proves sluggish in Oct.

Following two months of better numbers, sales tax receipts to the bi-county area fell in October, dropping back below totals from 2009. Monett's four sales taxes took an 8 percent drop from last October. The two sales taxes for general expenses generated $123,003.08, down $10,222,66 from a year ago and the lowest amount for the month since 2009.
