Monett Main Street advances historic district

Mural Approved by Library Board (Local News ~ 08/23/13)
The final sketch of a proposed mural for the Pierce City Branch Library was approved recently at the August board meeting of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library. Artist and Pierce City Arts Council (PCAC) member, Sherry Pettey, presented her life-sized sketch of scenes from Pierce City history to the library board. Pettey resides in Carthage but has been a member and supporter of PCAC for several years. -

Local sheriffs to issue concealed weapons permits

The Barry County Sheriff's Office will begin issuing concealed carry permits as of Aug. 28. The Missouri State Sheriff's Association said the change is in compliance with SB75, signed into law by Gov. Jay Nixon last July. Local sheriff's offices will be responsible for issuing conceal carry permits as well as renewal of those permits as of Aug. 28 rather than permit-holders receiving an endorsement on their Missouri driver's or non-driver's license...
