TIF suit updated on eve of annual bond payment (10/04/12)
Last week Mary Jo Shaney, the City of Monett's lead attorney in the lawsuit over Monett's tax increment financing (TIF) program, met for over two hours with Monett's TIF Commission. Shaney last met with the TIF Commission in late August 2011. Shaney, who works at the Kansas City-based law firm of White Goss Bowers March Schulte and Weisenfels, reported all the filings have been completed for the appeal in the TIF suit. ...
Sales tax drops sharply in Sept. (10/04/12)
For the third consecutive month, sales tax disbursements to the bi-county area have slid below 2011 levels. The September monthly total dropped 12 percent from 2011, even though the sum was 7 percent above the 2010 tally. Monett's September sales tax disbursement, historically the biggest of the year, topped the $255,000 level for the general fund in 2006 and 2007 before the economic downturn. ...

Pierce City man sentenced to 19 years (10/04/12)
A Pierce City man has been sentenced to 19 years and seven months in prison for enticing a minor for illicit sex. William Rohe, 55, of Pierce City, was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday, Oct. 2, by United States District Judge Richard E. Dorr. In April, members of the Southwest Missouri Cybercrimes Task Force were contacted by Pierce City Police Chief Michael Abramovitz, who reported a 14-year-old minor had been repeatedly contacted by Rohe through his Facebook account...
