Monett chamber gets in the holiday spirit (09/28/12)

Law enforcement officials warn of scams (09/28/12)
Area law enforcement officials are cautioning bi-county residents of more telephone scams circulating in the southwest Missouri area. Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly reported his office is receiving numerous complaints. "We get about one call a day concerning some kind of scam that's going on," he said. "If it sounds too good to be true, people should call the sheriff's office. We can tell them if it's a scam or not."...
Staley book explores Waldensian heritage (09/28/12)
Former Monettan Jim Staley has completed two and a-half years of work tracing his family's history. The product of his efforts, the 208-page hardbound book, "The Courdins of Val Pellice," is now available at the Monett Museum. The volume traces Staley's family back four generations, to Etienne and Catherine Courdin, the progenitors of the Waldensian community in Monett. ...

Community Kitchen board members cooked and served meals to approximately 75 volunteers on Saturday, in appreciation of over 20,000 hours of dedicated service and 27,000 meals served. Over 350 volunteers have assisted in serving meals three times per week for the past two years...
Stevens graduates from law enforcement training (09/28/12)
Recruit Officer Spirit Dawn Stevens, of Monett, graduated from the Law Enforcement Training Institute of the University of Missouri-Columbia on Aug. 17. Stevens received the Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification completing 600 hours of work. Vernon, was selected to receive the Laverta Arnhart Jones Scholarship administered by the Aurora Area Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
