Lions chicken barbecue will still be held (07/02/12)
In spite of the fact that the July Fourth celebration at Monett South Park has been cancelled, the Monett Lions Chicken Barbecue will still be held on July 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Park across from the Casino building. The meal includes half a chicken, beans, bread, and drink for just $6.00 at the door. Funds raised go 100% to charitable causes...
New home for medically fragile DD clients (07/02/12)
The Arc of the Ozarks has a new facility in Springfield dedicated to medically fragile individuals with developmental disabilities. Sales tax payments rebound in June (07/02/12)
After two months of weaker sales tax disbursements, payments in June rebounded in a big way, pushing almost all the recipients to higher totals than the first half of 2011. Monett's four sales taxes saw an increase of more than 30 percent from last June. The two taxes for the general fund generated $194,949.67, up $47,448.92 from a year ago. The total was the largest received in June since 2007. The city's four taxes brought in $82,279.22 more than a year ago...

Ticknor describes El Salvador trip to Kiwanians (07/02/12)
Monettan Matt Ticknor offered details about his trip to El Salvador as part of the Thrivent for Lutherans team working with Habitat for Humanity at last week's meeting of the Monett Kiwanis Club. Thrivent Builds, a partnership with Habitat, represents a $125 million commitment over the last four years. The financial services company has agreed to renew its commitment for another four years, Ticknor said. Thrivent plans to build homes in Joplin during three weeks in August...

ICE CREAM SOCIAL (07/02/12)
The Waldensian Presbyterian Church held its annual ice cream social on Thursday, June 28. A large group enjoyed a variety of food and ice cream. The menu consisted of pimento cheese sandwiches, ham salad sandwiches, sloppy joes, potato chips, soft drinks tea and coffee. Topping off the meal was a variety of desserts and ice cream. Monett's Post #91 American Legion squad swept a AAA twinbill from Webb City on Thursday night, 11-3 and 13-4. The two home wins pushed the Monett team's season record to 17-11 with a 7-3 league record. Playing in record heat in the early game, Post #91 built an early 9-0 lead, thanks to four-run outbursts in both the first and third innings. Ben Makela pitched all seven innings for the win.
