Higher electric rates facing Monett (06/22/12)
Electricity costs for the City of Monett from Empire District Electric are facing steep increases for the coming year. Several ordinances were introduced to adjust costs at the June meeting of the Monett City Council on Wednesday. Purdy woman involved in fatal crash gets probation (06/22/12)
A Purdy young woman has been sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with a crash that claimed the life of a Wheaton teenager. Nicole Sierra Wood, 19, appeared before Circuit Judge Robert S. Wiley in a Barry County courtroom on Tuesday with her attorney John Lewright by her side. Judge Wiley suspended the formal imposition of sentence and ordered Wood be placed on probation for five years...
Click It or Ticket enforcements results (06/22/12)
The Monett Police Department participated in the national Click It or Ticket mobilization conducted from May 21 through June 3. During the enforcement effort, officers issued a total of 78 traffic tickets and warnings including: 10 seat belt tickets, five speeding tickets, and 14 other traffic violations. There is no organized promotional campaign for Monett as the place to come during the summer. In spite of this, Monett has more major events than any other bi-county community. There's the Strawberry Festival at the beginning of June. After two years, the festival is showing staying power. It's a good opener for the three summer months...
