Graduates celebrate years of achievement (05/21/12)
An overflow crowd attended graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2012 at Monett High School on Friday. The ceremony included displays of individuality and accomplishments among the class members. The school theme for the year, as a banner over the commons room displayed, has been "Lead out Loud." Deputies arrest three for DWI (05/21/12)
The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office made three drunk driving arrests during the recent May 3 through May 13 drunk driving crackdown. Deputies also issued the following traffic citations: three speeding tickets; one seat belt ticket; three minor in possession; five suspended or revoked licenses; one drug arrest; and one other non-hazardous moving vehicle violation. Deputies also issued 63 warnings for various traffic offenses...

Storm siren bought to serve Purdy area (05/21/12)
Purdy aldermen purchased a new storm siren at their May meeting. Aldermen heard presentations from storm siren vendors at a special meeting on May 1. Having reviewed bids, they voted to buy a larger, more expensive Century siren from Storm Sirens Inc. of Norman, Okla. for $19,995. Dutra said the Century model had fewer moving parts and ran primarily on AC electricity, rather than batteries. The siren is expected to be audible at a quarter mile distance...
BC Youth Camp preparations completed, bus routes listed (05/21/12)
The Barry County Youth Camp, which will be held May 29 through June 1 at Camp Smokey in Roaring River State Park, will offer bus services in Cassville, Monett and Purdy. The Monett bus stop will be at the Monett First Baptist Church parking lot, located at 412 Fourth St. Campers should assemble at the stop by 8:30 a.m. on May 29. A Miller woman was among two people hurt in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 11:56 a.m. on Saturday near Springfield. Wheaton shines at state meet (05/21/12)
The Wheaton Bulldogs captured the third place team trophy at the Class 1 MSHSAA Track and Field Championships at Jefferson City's Lincoln University over the weekend. The Bulldogs scored 46 points with just three athletes in attendance as coach Darrel Crane carried home another trophy from the state meet.
