LawCo officers focus on area drunk drivers (03/09/12)
The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department will be cracking down on drunk drivers. According to Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay, nearly 30 percent of all Missouri fatalities include alcohol as a contributing factor. "In 2011, a total of 220 people were killed and 916 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver," DeLay said. "That is why the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department will join other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving."...

Verona Council fills police dept. vacancy (03/09/12)
Verona now has a new police officer after the city council voted to hire Cody Hughes at a special meeting held on Feb. 16. Hughes will work for $8.50 per hour. In their regular meeting, held Feb. 28, aldermen approved the purchase of a 1996 Ford XLT from Mooneyham Auto Sales in Verona at a cost of $2,450. The truck needs some transmission work, but Mayor Lloyd Airrington said those services were included in the purchase price...

Rauch describes ongoing water projects, future plans to Monett Kiwanis members (03/09/12)
Monett Utilities Superintendent Pete Rauch updated the Monett Kiwanis Club on improvements and plans for water projects in Monett. Rauch said work to lay the loop of 12- and 16-inch water mains in a loop around the city is nearly complete. A private contractor is laying mains from Farm Road 1090 to Highway 37. City crews are completing the loop on Chapell Drive that links the standpipe behind Lowe's to the line that runs across the north of the city to Eisenhower Street...
Two hurt in creashes (03/09/12)
By Melonie Roberts A Mt. Vernon man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday on Highway 160 about four miles north of Reeds Spring. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when the driver of a 2005 Volvo, Jackie J. Warren, 76, of Mt. Vernon, stopped to make a left turn and was passed by a 2012 Nissan, driven by Jennifer D. Griffin, 39, of Springfield. The Griffin vehicle clipped the Volvo, causing the Nissan to roll...
