Chamber makes plans for upcoming events (12/29/11)
The Monett Chamber of Commerce made plans for elections and the annual membership banquet during the December Board of Directors meeting. "The Sights and Sounds of Monett" will be the theme for the annual meeting, slated for Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Southwest Area Career Center commons room. Local artists, including painters and sculptors, will be invited to display their creations during the event. Artists are welcome to contact the chamber office at 235-7919 for more information...
Sales tax income makes big gains in December & 2011 (12/29/11)
Cities in Barry and Lawrence counties received $1.1 million more in 2011 than in 2010. Sales tax totals showed increases for all but two cities in December and all but one city for 2011. Monett had a particularly good December. The two sales taxes for the general fund generated $196,676.79, up $51,571.37 or 35 percent from a year ago...
Bright lights in downtown Monett (12/29/11)
Those visiting downtown Monett during the Christmas season have enjoyed some of the light displays from the Monett Chamber of Commerce's Festival of Lights. A new winter wonderland landmark can be found in Purdy. The fountain in the new Purdy park, east of Purdy City Hall, was transformed by recent frigid temperatures into a spectacular reflection of winter.

Monett drops two in tourney (12/29/11)
One day after picking up an upset win over Hannibal, the Monett Cubs struggled to find rhythm and consistency against the Carthage Tigers as they fell 58-27 in the second round of the Neosho Holiday Tournament. "In the first quarter we got some good looks at the basket, but we could get anything to go in," said Monett coach Ty Goetz. "After that, we started pressing and rushing our shots and that led to some easy transition baskets for Carthage. We have to put this one behind us and move on."...
Purdy boys fall to Wheaton in tourney action (12/29/11)
On Wednesday night in Washburn, Wheaton's Sean Goostree moved to the front of the line for tournament MVP consideration. His 31-point performance powered the Bulldogs past Purdy in the late semi-final of the Southwest Holiday Tournament, 66-54. Purdy rallys past Carthage (12/29/11)
A huge fourth quarter by the Purdy Lady Eagles secured a 56-51 victory over Carthage in the Neosho Holiday Tournament, and sent Purdy into the semi-finals. Trailing 43-37 after three quarters of play, Purdy scored seven points to open the period and take a 44-43 lead with 6:33 remaining in the game. The Lady Tigers responded with a quick basket to briefly reclaim the lead, but Purdy responded with a basket by Katie Hughes and Addy Roller to take the lead for good...
