Sales tax shows a sharp rise (09/30/11)
Sales tax income in the bi-county area shot up sharply in September from a year ago. The largest disbursement of funds this year brought improved receipts to both counties and nine of the 11 cities. Receipts for Monett jumped by 20 percent. Income from the four taxes increased by $60,325, and of that, $35,030 went into the general fund. The best September showing in three years brought the six-month general fund total to $966,777.19, within $30,000 of the fiscal year record pace set in 2008...

Walnut season gets underway Saturday in Monett (09/30/11)
Walnut season starts on Saturday at Farm Pro on South Highway 37 in Monett. Farm Pro serves as the local buyer for the Hammons Product Company, based in Stockton. Once again around 300,000 pounds of walnuts are expected to be brought in by area residents who will collect nuts...
National leader visits Monett Jaycees (09/30/11)
The Monett Jaycees hosted Joanie Cramer, the 91st national Jaycees president from Huntersville, N.C., and Stephen Coffey, the Missouri state Jaycees president from Fulton, at a special dinner reception held on Monday at the Monett Masonic Lodge. Cramer, who is spending the year traveling to Jaycees chapters, said she had "the best job ever." She praised small town chapters like Monett's as places where Jaycees chapters are growing and members are making a difference in their communities...
