Mother of fallen soldier to speak at 9/11 event (09/08/11)
On Sunday, Teresa Stark, the mother of fallen Monett soldier Christopher Stark, will be the guest speaker at a Sept. 11 memorial event that will be held outside the Barry County Courthouse in Cassville beginning at 8 a.m. Southwest Area Career Center JROTC members Mitchell Cooper, Kendal Cooper, Anthony Benavidez and Nicholas James will begin the memorial service with the presentation of the colors. Coming soon: paintball park (09/08/11)
A new major entertainment attraction is coming to the Monett-Pierce City area. The Kick'n Paintball Park, built by Tim Land, is nearing completion and should open for business later this fall. Land, a 2004 Pierce City High School graduate, has played paintball since he was 10 and competed on teams since age 15. He worked for Kick'n Paintball and Springfield Paintball for six years, running the business from 2005 until he bought them out two years ago...
Monett Chamber of Commerce board plans for year-end events (09/08/11)
Monett Chamber of Commerce Board members discussed plans for fall and year-end events at the August meeting. One of the chamber's big year-end events will be Festival of Flavors. Cindy Stephens and Janell Patton, co-chairpersons for the event, reported vendors found Tuesdays better than the traditional Thursday date. The festival will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8, earlier than in past years, giving vendors more time to market their holiday specials and book catering events...
"Jungle Boogie" is PCHS homecoming theme (09/08/11)
Pierce City High School will celebrate its annual football homecoming on Sept. 16 when the Eagles take on the Greenfield Wildcats. This year's homecoming theme is "Jungle Boogie." Activities on Monday will be centered around "Hidden Jungle," where students will search for leaves around the school to win a candy prize. Jolly Mill puts up fee island (09/08/11)
A new fee island has been established to benefit the Jolly Mill Park. According to Piper Price with the Friends of Jolly Mill, the recreation area next to the 1850s mill now has an Iron Ranger near the entrance with donation cards and instructions on supporting the park. Users are asked to make a donation in a sealed envelope of $5 to use the park for a day, tearing off a tag and displaying it on the dashboard while at the park. Buses are asked to make a $30-a-day donation...
Membership mingle to be held at IDF (09/08/11)
The Monett Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a "Made in Monett" membership mingle on Thursday, Sept. 22 at International Dehydrated Foods (IDF).
