County meeting draws standing-room-only crowd (08/24/11)
A standing-room only crowd filled the Barry County Courthouse's downstairs courtroom last Thursday night to listen to county officeholders detail the need for an additional sales tax for law enforcement and public safety. Prosecuting Attorney Johnnie Cox and Sheriff Mick Epperly both made presentations, detailing an increase in caseloads, a decrease in staffing and a rise in expenses that left both offices short of the resources necessary to provide for the public safety needs of Barry County citizens.. ...

Monett man now in prison (08/24/11)
A former Monett man has been sentenced to serve 10 years in prison on an amended charge of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the 2007 death of a Pierce City man. Michael Huggins, 26, formerly of Monett, entered the guilty plea on June 20 for the death of Joshua Woods Utter, 21, of Pierce City. Utter was killed Sept. 25, 2007. Huggins had previously been tried twice for second degree murder with both trials ending in mistrials...
