Purdy R-2 looks at funding options (08/18/11)
The Purdy R-2 Board of Education spent most of its August meeting exploring funding options after determining the district had a cash flow problem. Board members passed the tax levy for the coming year with no changes. The operating fund remains at $2.75 per $100 of assessed property, and the debt service levy, which can be raised as high as 96 cents, stayed at 69 cents...
It's polka time again in Freistatt (08/18/11)
The 38th annual Freistatt Lions Club's Ernte Fest is set to open this Friday and Saturday in Freistatt. The traditional celebration of German culture will include German food, music, games and live entertainment. City radios change frequency (08/18/11)
Last week, Monett police and firefighters brought their portable radios in for adjustments. All the radios have now transferred from broad band to narrow band usage. Bonnie Witt-Schulte, dispatching supervisor, said the transition was planned. New radios were purchased last year using grant money from Homeland Security, and these radios were all P-25 compliant. The new radios could be reprogrammed from the old frequency to the new one...
Updated approach introduced for healthy eating (08/18/11)
On June 2, First Lady Michelle Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack unveiled the federal government's new food icon, MyPlate, to serve as a reminder to help consumers make healthier food choices. MyPlate is a new generation icon with the intent to prompt consumers to think about building a healthy plate at meal times and to seek more information to help them do that by going to www.ChooseMyPlate.gov. ...

The Monett Lions Club has donated 50 book bags to Monett Elementary School and Central Park Elementary School. The bags are given to students in need or who otherwise cannot afford them.
Monett Council to have busy session (08/18/11)
Major pieces of business are scheduled for the Monett City Council's monthly meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. The audit of the city's business for the 2010-11 fiscal year will be presented. Council members will certify results of the Aug. 2 election that authorized the sale of $12 million in bonds to build a new water treatment plant. An agreement with Missouri Main Street Connection and the Monett Main Street Committee over the recently approved $23,500 grant will be ratified by ordinance...
