Monett library building project is now on hold (08/03/11)
For the past three years, plans have been in front of the public to build a new 13,520-square-foot Monett library branch building. A reduction in the district property tax levy and the economic downtown have stalled but not stopped the project. Jean Berg, retiring director of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library, said the legislation passed in 2008 that defined the district's property tax cut revenue by about $300,000 a year...
Monett bond issue passes (08/03/11)
Monett voters overwhelmingly approved a $12 million bond issue to pay for a new water treatment plant on Tuesday. Voters supported the plan by a vote of 145-26 or 85 percent in favor. The vote was 61-14 in Barry County and 84-12 in Lawrence County. Approval will enable the city to seek financing for the project through the State Revolving Fund, which will loan the money needed at 2 to 2.5 percent interest. The cost will be covered by water rate increases phased in over the last three years...
Meth lab busted in BarCo (08/03/11)
The Barry County Sheriff's Department and the Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force seized several meth lab components and arrested two Berryville, Ark., men at an Eagle Rock residence on July 25. Last Monday, Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly received information on a possible meth lab at 28819 Farm Road 1210 in Eagle Rock. Epperly also learned that 41-year-old Jefferey R. Edmondson, who was wanted in Arkansas on a parole violation warrant, was at the residence in possession of a handgun...
Drug task force nabs big grant (08/03/11)
The Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force was one of several agencies to receive a Department of Public Safety grant this week to help combat the use of illegal drugs and related crimes.
