New teachers hired to join Monett faculty (07/14/11)
The Monett R-1 Board of Education has hired staff to fill the last two positions open for the 2011-12 school year and looked at program changes during the June board meeting. Joshua Carter was hired as a teacher for Central Park Elementary. A Missouri Southern State University graduate, Carter comes from Granby and will be taking on his first full-time teaching position...
Council in Purdy saves on interest (07/14/11)
Purdy aldermen approved refinancing $440,000 in bonds through UMB at their July 11 meetng. The amount represents the remaining balance on water system improvement funding that included a new water tower and well drilled in 2002. Community members struggling to pay costs associated with air conditioning their homes are encouraged to apply for OACAC's Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP). "This program helps with electric costs to keep homes cool," said Gail Reed, Barry County OACAC Neighborhood Center director. Donations have been coming in at a steady pace at Crosslines in Monett. According to supervisor Helen Cox, Crosslines looks for clean, usable, unbroken items that can be resold. The Wheaton Volunteer Fire Department hosted its 53rd annual barbecue in the Wheaton City Park on July 9.
