Bridge work begins (07/07/11)
Construction started Tuesday to replace the Highway 97 bridge over Clear Creek in Pierce City. The bridge, built in 1935, stands on a wood foundation and is one of five bridges in Lawrence County slated for replacement under the Missouri Department of Transportation's Safe and Sound Bridge program. The Monett R-1 Board of Education closed its 2010-11 school year on the last day of the fiscal year, June 30, and made plans for a financially optimistic year ahead. An Aurora woman pleaded guilty yesterday to embezzling $253,848 from two employers. Diana Kay Erickson, 46, entered her plea in federal court in Springfield before U.S. Magistrate Judge James C. England. She admitted that she embezzled $219,606 from Superior Lifts, Inc., between Sept. 7, 2006, and April 2, 2008. She also confessed to embezzling $34,242 from Goolsby Rental Properties between March 14, 2006, and Dec. 18, 2006...
