Pierce City High School will host the first annual Doug Weatherly Scholarship Fun Run on Saturday, April 9. Fatal crash leads to manslaughter charges (02/24/11)
Manslaughter charges have been filed against a Purdy man after he struck a vehicle head on while reportedly driving drunk. A 10-year-old girl in the vehicle he struck died from injuries suffered in the crash. Barry County Prosecuting Attorney Johnnie Cox filed two charges of felony vehicular assault charges, one charge of involuntary manslaughter and one charge of driving while intoxicated, third offense, against Gregory Swaffar, 26, on Sunday following the Saturday night crash on Highway 37 one mile south of Butterfield.. ...

Services provided through the Children's Centers of Southwest Missouri were presented at the weekly meeting of the Monett Kiwanis Club this week. Verona council continues fire discussion (02/24/11)
Aldermen at Verona have had a busy month deciding what streets will be repaired and whether the city should contract with Aurora Rural Fire Department for coverage. Aldermen discussed stormwater drainage and street improvements during a Feb. 11 meeting. It was determined that the city would be responsible for obtaining necessary easements for the project. Those efforts will be applied toward in-kind contributions for the grant application, and will lower the overall cost of the project...

State lawmakers have proposed House Bill 471 to help school districts deal with an excessive number of snow days to make up.
