A perfect place for eagle viewing (01/03/11)
Around a half dozen eagles have been spotted in Roaring River State Park this year. The Ozark Chinquapin Nature Center will offer its next eagle viewing program on Jan. 15, 2011. "Those interested in viewing the eagles in the park should plan to come early or stay late and be very patient," said Tim Smith, Roaring River naturalist. "If they come early, they should look for the eagles along the picnic grounds, near the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Lodge and near the hatchery."...
R-2 School Board members receive positive audit report (01/03/11)
The Purdy R-2 School District received an upbeat audit report in light of uncertainty over state funding in the coming year. Superintendent Jerry Lingo reported the audit, which was conducted by the Springfield firm of Davis, Lynn and Moots, showed the district had built up its reserve funds from 18.1 percent to 19.8 percent over the school year that ended on June 30. Purdy squads fall in championship games (01/03/11)

Cubs basketball picks up victory (01/03/11)
The Monett Cubs basketball team ended the Neosho Holiday Tournament on a high note last Wednesday, defeating Diamond 38-37. Monett led 9-2 at the end of the first quarter. Cub grapplers finish eighth in Springfield tourney (01/03/11)
The Monett Cubs wrestling team took eighth out of 24 teams at the Bob Kinloch Springfield Holiday Wrestling Tournament on Thursday. Schools from three states attended the tournament. Ozark claimed the team Championship. "We had a great tournament," said Monett Head Coach Daryl Bradley. "Placing in the top eight is a great accomplishment considering we had only nine kids participating. It was a long couple of days and the kids fought hard and battled through and finished strong."...
Verona falls in championship (01/03/11)
The Verona Lady Wildcats couldn't sustain an stellar first quarter shooting effort and fell 58-48 to Fordland in the championship game of the Walnut Grove Holiday Tournament.
