Monett five-year TIF report shows progress (12/17/10)
Yesterday, the Monett City Council and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Commission held a joint public hearing on the TIF program at Monett City Hall. A 2009 law called for reports on TIF programs to be made every five years. Even though Monett's TIFs predate the law, City Administrator Dennis Pyle said the second TIF district is marking its fifth anniversary. To comply with the spirit of the law, the city opted to hold a public hearing on both of its TIF districts at the same time...
Linn Thornton's Christmas campaign continues (12/17/10)
Linn Thornton had packed toys for 150 families by midweek, about halfway through his annual odyssey distributing Christmas gifts to needy families in the Monett area. Thornton reported his efforts were picking up steam as the big day draws nearer. "Sunday we packed out 52 families. Fire chief offers fire safety tips (12/17/10)
As winter temperatures get colder, area homes get warmer as residents turn on heating units to chase the chill away. But improper use of heating systems can cause fire, injury or even death. The Trinity Lady White Knights (6-2) earned a 38-12 victory in Springfield Thursday against the Springfield Lady Eagles (2-3). After a turnover-laden start for both teams, the first quarter ended with Trinity up 6-3. The Lady White Knights started the second quarter with full-court press. The added pressure helped Trinity reel off 17 unanswered points to take a 23-3 lead into halftime...
