Bob Baum named Kiwanian of the Year (10/18/10)
The Monett Kiwanis Club named Bob Baum as Kiwanian of the Year and installed new officers at the club's annual installation banquet, held at Grant's restaurant. Baum, 98, has been active in the Kiwanis Club since its days of meeting at Hatcher's banquet room downtown. He still attends weekly meetings and participates in projects. The salute to Baum included a "This is Your Life" video narrated by Gordon Brown, prepared with the assistance of the Baum children, James, Paula and Susan...
Three Monett vets on Honor Flight (10/18/10)
Three World War II veterans from Monett will be headed to Washington D.C. on Tuesday as guests of Ozarks Honor Flight. This will be the second occasion Monett veterans have had to go to the nation's capital and see the major memorials to veterans. Scoring in every quarter, the undefeated Cassville Wildcats handled the Monett Cubs 35-7 last Friday night in a Big 8 Conference and Class 3A District football game. Cassville utilized a versatile offense and solid defense to beat the visiting Cubs, now 2-6 on the year and 1-4 in the league. While game statistics showed total yardage to be fairly close, 286 for Cassville compared to 217 for the Cubs, a big portion of Monett's yardage came late in the game when the outcome was no longer in doubt...
